2025 KCSE: Results of 1,180 candidates cancelled

A total of 1,180 candidates who participated in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will have their results withheld after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) nullified them due to proven cases of examination malpractice.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba made the announcement during the official release of the 2025 KCSE results at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret. He explained that the cancellations followed the completion of probes that were launched back in November of the previous year.

Defending the tough stance, the CS pointed to the KNEC (Handling of Examination Irregularities) Rules of 2015, specifically Legal Notice No. 132 of 2015, which empowers the Council to suspend or cancel a candidate’s results in instances of proven irregularities.

"I wish to reiterate our stand on the integrity of examinations. In November last year, we indicated that there were reported cases under investigation and that action would be taken upon conclusion of the investigation," he noted.

"At the conclusion of the KCSE examination, 1,180 candidates were found to have been involved in examination irregularities. Consequently, and in line with the applicable law and regulations, their examination results have been cancelled."

For comparison, 840 candidates had their results cancelled in the 2024 KCSE exams, while an additional 2,829 results were initially withheld pending further review.

This year’s figure of 1,180 represents a 40 per cent increase, highlighting a concerning rise in attempts to cheat during the examinations.
