Comments and likes
You can participate without an account. Your display name and approved comment become public; comments are reviewed before publication. A necessary, signed browser cookie lasting up to one year remembers your likes and helps prevent duplicate submissions. Clearing it may reset that recognition. We retain comments, moderation decisions and like records to operate this service and report aggregate article engagement, separately from optional audience tracking. Short-lived hashed security identifiers help limit abuse; raw IP addresses are not stored in discussion records. Avoid sharing sensitive information. Contact us to request removal, identifying the article and comment.

The essentials
We process information you send us, such as a news tip, correspondence or account details, to respond and provide our services. Hosting and security services also process technical connection information, including IP addresses, to deliver pages, prevent misuse and keep accounts secure. These necessary activities are separate from optional audience measurement.
Basic article counts
We count article page loads without a tracking cookie or a lasting reader identifier. Short-lived request receipts prevent duplicate delivery, and hashed security counters limit abuse. These aggregate counts are separate from optional browsing analytics and do not identify unique people.
Understanding our audience
With your permission, we measure pages and articles visited, searches, use of company pages and datasets, and engagement with streams and advertisements. Broad device categories, referring sites and time spent help us improve coverage and understand what readers find useful. Reports use random identifiers rather than your name; audience records do not store raw IP addresses or device fingerprints. Search terms that resemble email addresses, URLs or long number sequences are excluded. Please avoid putting personal or sensitive information into search.
Cookies and your choices
Optional audience measurement uses a session cookie lasting about 30 minutes and a random visitor cookie lasting up to 90 days to recognise return visits. Cookie expiry does not itself delete earlier records. You can decline measurement, or change your decision through Privacy choices at any time. Withdrawal clears these cookies and stops future measurement; it does not affect earlier lawful processing. Our audience measurement respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Necessary sign-in and security functions may still use cookies.
Advertising
When enabled, Google AdSense and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure advertising, including personalised ads based on visits to this and other websites. Advertising choices are separate from our audience measurement choice. Where required, the advertising consent message lets you accept, reject or manage these uses. We provide advertisers with audience reports, rather than selling reader names or contact lists.
Service providers and international processing
We use hosting, database, security and advertising providers, including Vercel, Supabase and Google. Information may be processed outside Kenya. Applicable transfer safeguards and provider agreements are required for these transfers. Playing third-party media, such as Twitch or YouTube, connects to that provider, which may receive technical information and apply its own privacy notice. Browser translation downloads model files from Hugging Face; article translation then runs on your device. Saved pages and offline drafts may be stored on that device.
Purpose, retention and protection
We rely on consent for optional measurement and advertising where required, contractual necessity for requested services, and legitimate interests or legal obligations where applicable for security, correspondence and administration. We keep information only as needed for these purposes, applicable record-keeping duties and resolving disputes. Retention varies by record type; the visitor cookie period is not a universal retention period. Access controls and other safeguards reduce risk, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to your personal information, correction, deletion or restriction, object to processing, and withdraw consent. Contact tvmagharibi@gmail.com with enough detail to locate the relevant records; we may need to verify your identity. Anonymous browser activity may not be identifiable from your email address alone. You may also raise a concern with Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner at www.odpc.go.ke.
Young readers and changes
We do not knowingly seek personal information from children for advertising or audience profiling. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied personal information that needs attention. We will update this notice when our practices change and bring material changes to your attention as appropriate.
