All 33 Bodies from Kericho Mass Grave Came from Nyamira County Referral Hospital Mortuary – DCI
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that all 33 bodies discovered in a mass grave in Kericho County were taken from the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary.
DCI boss Mohamed Amin made the announcement on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, while giving an update on the ongoing investigation.
Amin confirmed that the bodies were removed from the hospital mortuary and buried in the unmarked grave in Kericho. The probe is now focused on establishing the true identities of the deceased and determining how and why the bodies were moved from Nyamira to Kericho. Authorities are also looking into who authorised the removal and transportation of the bodies.
The discovery of the mass grave has shocked many Kenyans and raised serious questions about the management of mortuaries and the handling of human remains. Police and forensic teams continue to work at the scene while collecting evidence. The DCI has appealed to members of the public, especially families from Nyamira County who have missing relatives, to come forward with information that can help identify the bodies.
