Allan Ademba Outlines Next Phase for ‘Niko Kadi’ After Voter Registration Drive

Allan Ademba, the journalist and youth mobilizer behind the popular ‘Niko Kadi’ (also known as #TukoKadi) campaign, has clarified the future direction of the citizen-led initiative following the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Launched as a grassroots effort to encourage young Kenyans to register as voters ahead of future elections, the movement has gained massive traction across the country, drawing thousands to IEBC offices in areas such as Kibra, Lang’ata, the five Embakasi constituencies, and Anniversary Towers. A major registration push is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Ademba stressed that while the immediate focus remains on maximising voter registration, the campaign will not end there. Once the registration phase concludes, ‘Niko Kadi’ will shift towards providing citizen-led civic and political education, helping participants understand the voting process and the importance of turning up to cast their ballots. He made the remarks during an interview, emphasising that the initiative is purely about empowering ordinary citizens rather than serving any political agenda.

The youth leader also voiced strong concerns about attempts by politicians and influential figures to hijack the movement for their own benefit. Ademba revealed receiving calls offering sponsored lorries and branded materials bearing the #TukoKadi slogan, warning that any such vehicles appearing at registration points would be turned away. “Politicians and influential figures are trying to hijack #TukoKadi. The initiative is simply here to rally people to register to vote,” he stated, questioning why political actors feel the need to interfere with what started as a genuine citizen-driven effort.
