Armed Gunmen Raid Musanda Police Station in Kakamega, Kill One Officer, Wound Others, and Steal Two Rifles

In a brazen nighttime assault on Friday, armed assailants stormed Musanda Police Station in Mumias West sub-county, Kakamega County, resulting in the death of one police officer and injuries to several others.

The attackers, who arrived on two motorcycles under the pretense of reporting a stolen motorcycle at nearby Sigomere, quickly turned violent. A commotion broke out inside the station, followed by gunfire, during which one of the gunmen reportedly shouted about spotting another target before shooting an officer in the head.

The violence left Police Constable Brian Kipngetich with a gunshot wound to the head, while Corporal Richard Utolo was discovered unconscious and bleeding heavily from a chin injury. Additional injuries were sustained by another constable and a civilian woman. In the chaos, the assailants forced open a secure box using crowbars and made off with two G3 rifles, each already loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition. Evidence at the scene included bloodstains in the officers' quarters and the abandoned tools used in the break-in.

Authorities, including the Sub-County Police Commander and Criminal Investigations officers, promptly visited the location and rushed the wounded to Bungoma West Hospital for treatment. A manhunt has been launched for the six suspects, with ongoing searches for the stolen firearms and any spent cartridges. Investigations continue as police work to track down the perpetrators behind this audacious raid on a rural station.
