Azimio MCAs Reject Alleged Impeachment Bid Against Governor Sakaja,

Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Imwatok, leading a group of 72 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) aligned with the Azimio Coalition, has publicly distanced the coalition from any purported impeachment efforts targeting Governor Johnson Sakaja.
In a press briefing held on March 4, 2026, Imwatok described the impeachment claims as mere political rhetoric designed to derail Nairobi's development momentum. The MCAs emphasized their unwavering unity under Azimio and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the governor in delivering essential services to residents without unnecessary political interruptions or distractions.
The declaration comes shortly after the Nairobi City County Assembly unanimously approved an ambitious KSh80 billion Cooperation Agreement between the national government and Nairobi County Government. This landmark deal, endorsed the previous day, aims to unlock funding for critical infrastructure projects and enhanced service delivery, positioning Nairobi for transformative growth into a globally competitive city. Imwatok highlighted the cross-political consensus behind the agreement, stating that it demonstrates a shared priority for residents' interests over divisive politics. The group cited guidance from Azimio leader Raila Odinga, who supports leadership stability in Nairobi to allow Governor Sakaja to fulfill his full mandate.
The MCAs strongly condemned the impeachment push as ill-timed and misplaced, particularly at a pivotal moment when the city is poised for historic advancements through the cooperation framework. They called on those promoting such narratives to cease what they termed political blackmail and extortion, urging a shift from contestation to implementation. By rejecting destabilization attempts and championing unity, the Azimio bloc has reinforced a focus on socio-economic progress, ensuring that development initiatives proceed smoothly across political divides for the benefit of Nairobi's residents.
