Balde Stays Put Unless Barca Force Exit; Manchester United.

Manchester United have made contact with the representatives of Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde as they continue their search for defensive reinforcements.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Premier League club reached out to agent Jorge Mendes to gauge the Spaniard’s current standing at the Catalan giants. Mendes was recently in Barcelona handling several client matters, including discussions around potential departures.

Despite the enquiry, Balde remains firmly committed to his boyhood club. The 22-year-old, who has just under two years remaining on his contract, views himself as a long-term part of the project and has no personal desire to walk away. Romano explained that the defender would only contemplate a move if Barcelona themselves make it clear they are willing to sell and give him the green light to leave.

United already possess options at left-back in Luke Shaw and recent arrival Patrick Dorgu, yet the hierarchy still wants greater competition and quality in that area. Their pursuit of Newcastle’s Lewis Hall has so far failed to yield results, prompting interest in alternative targets across Europe. Balde, a Spain international with clear potential, fits the profile, though any deal would come at a significant cost.

Barcelona recently strengthened the full-back positions with the arrival of Joao Cancelo, a development that could theoretically reduce Balde’s guaranteed starts. Even so, the club values the academy graduate highly and previously rejected a £42 million approach from United last year. Internally, the relationship between player and club is described as strong, reinforcing the likelihood that he stays put for now.

Romano noted that while a substantial offer could always change the landscape, Balde’s preference is to remain and fight for his place. United therefore face an uphill battle if they decide to pursue the matter further, especially with several more affordable alternatives also on their radar. For the moment, the sole scenario that would see the talented defender depart Camp Nou appears to rest entirely in Barcelona’s hands.
