Beloved Viral Star Mzee Kibore Passes Away
Tanzanian actor and content creator Mzee Said Kibore has died after suffering a sudden heart attack at his home, leaving fans across East Africa in mourning.
The popular figure, widely known for a heartfelt performance of the Nisamehe love song that spread rapidly online, collapsed on Saturday and was rushed to Temeke Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from fellow entertainers and admirers who remembered his warmth, charisma, and ability to connect with audiences through simple, genuine moments.
Kibore rose to regional fame when a video of him passionately delivering the emotional track by musician Diameter captured widespread attention. The clip showcased his expressive delivery and sincere energy, turning the veteran performer into a beloved online personality beyond traditional acting circles. While he had already built a solid career in Tanzanian entertainment, that viral moment elevated him into a household name, earning affection from viewers who appreciated his authentic and unpretentious style.
His widow shared a moving account of the final moments, explaining that he had been managing high blood pressure and a heart condition. “He had high blood pressure, and yesterday he suffered a cardiac arrest. I didn’t expect him to die. I’m heartbroken. I remember yesterday I was outside when he called me to go into the house immediately, and he asked me to wipe his sweat. Things changed in a matter of seconds,” she recalled, her words capturing the sudden and devastating nature of the loss. Their youngest child confirmed the long-standing health challenges that ultimately claimed the father of three.
News of his death prompted immediate reactions from the creative community. Content creator Mr Kidampa was among those who posted emotional messages, writing “Ni ngumu kuamini pumzika kwa amani mzee wangu,” reflecting the disbelief and sorrow felt by many. In keeping with Islamic tradition, Kibore was laid to rest the following day at a public cemetery in Mbagala Charambe, Temeke.
