Brave Watchman Killed by Thugs While Protecting Supermarket in Kabula

A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night in Kabula market, located in Bumula Sub-County, Bungoma County, where a security guard was brutally killed by suspected armed robbers
The victim, identified as Mr. Waswa from the Remwa area, was on duty at a newly opened supermarket when the attackers targeted the premises. Despite his efforts to defend the business and protect his employer's property, Waswa was overpowered and hacked to death with sharp objects, highlighting the extreme violence often seen in such nighttime robberies in rural trading centers.
Local accounts indicate that the assailants gained entry under the cover of darkness, likely aiming to loot cash, goods, or other valuables from the store. Waswa's brave attempt to resist the gang ultimately cost him his life, leaving the supermarket ransacked and the community in shock. Kabula market, a busy local hub serving surrounding villages, has seen occasional security concerns, but this fatal attack underscores growing fears over inadequate protection for small businesses operating late hours in the region. Authorities have yet to release details on stolen items or the number of perpetrators involved.
Bungoma County Police are actively investigating the murder, with officers from the nearest station collecting evidence at the scene, interviewing witnesses, and pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects. No arrests have been reported so far, and the motive appears tied to robbery rather than personal grudge.
The incident has drawn condolences from locals and calls for enhanced security measures, such as better lighting, patrols, or private guards in vulnerable markets.
