Busia county government has announced a significant increase in revenue collection over the past two months, following the suspension of revenue officials accused of embezzlement.

Addressing the press,finance, and economic planning CECM, Andrew Nakitari attributes this progress to strategies like technology adoption, aiming to reach the Sh2 billion revenue target set by independent institutions.

Chief Revenue Officer Timothy Odende supports this claim, noting improved revenue collection despite initially low tax rates. The department is optimistic about achieving its 2025/2026 target of Sh707 million, with strong first-quarter performance (Sh235 million).

Plans are underway to expand revenue collection services to border points and long-distance trucks, which will ensure the county reaps well from every collection.However, they have vowed to take stern legal action against any former revenue officers found guilty of misconduct.
