Residents of Busia County have been encouraged to enroll in various health insurance schemes as one way of addressing the rising cost of funerals, which continues to place a heavy financial strain on many families during times of bereavement.

Speaking during the launch of the partnership of Britam maisha plan and Francis funeral home, Director Roseline Barasa urged residents to take early action by joining insurance programs, emphasizing that such measures would significantly reduce the financial burden often faced by grieving families.

Barasa also called on residents to enrol in the Britam Maisha Plan, describing it as a practical solution designed to help families manage healthcare expenses as well as costs associated with funerals.

"The residents of Busia County probably upto 80% are living on less than 1 dollar shilling per day, this means that our poverty level are extremely high, this program is coming to ease the burden of mwananchi and therefore lets embrace it" ~ Director Roseline Barasa

The same was echoed by the speaker of the County Assembly of Busia Eng. Frederick Odilo, who has called on the residents to enrol in the Maisha Plan, describes it as a practical solution designed to help families manage healthcare expenses as well as costs associated with funerals.

Odilo noted that low awareness about the importance of insurance has contributed to many families falling into financial hardship after losing loved ones—situations that could be avoided through proper planning.

Residents were further encouraged to work closely with stakeholders to access accurate information about insurance options and take the necessary steps to safeguard their lives and those of their families.
