Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo applauds the new Budget Committee as counties receive increased funding.

By Emmanuel Jumaah: Busia County leaders have been challenged to embrace transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, warning that residents are becoming more vigilant about how their taxes are spent.
As counties prepare to receive a larger share of funds under the 2026/2027 national budget, Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo has urged governors to ensure the money brings real change to the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
Speaking to residents at Ocere City, Teso North in Busia County, Omanyo said kenyans are tired of hearing about billions of money being allocated to counties without seeing improvements in the services they depend on every day.She noted that the increased funding should be reflected in better-equipped hospitals, improved roads, reliable water projects, and programmes that create opportunities for young people and women.
Has also challenged County leaders to embrace transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, warning that residents are becoming more vigilant about how their taxes are spent. According to her, devolution can only succeed if the resources sent to counties reach the people they are intended to serve.
Furthermore, she commended the new Budget and Appropriations Committee, thanking its members for their role in steering the budget-making process and advocating for increased allocations to sectors that directly benefit Kenyans. She expressed optimism that the committee would continue to uphold fairness and prioritise the needs of the people in future budget decisions.
She further called on governors to set aside political rivalries and focus on development, saying citizens are more concerned about access to quality healthcare, education, and economic empowerment than political contests.
Her remarks come at a time when expectations are high over the increased county allocations in the new financial year, with many Kenyans hoping the additional resources will finally translate into visible development at the grassroots.
