CCTV shows Constable as Key in Ojwang Murder Court Hearing
New evidence has emerged in the high-profile murder case involving the death of teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang.
During proceedings at the Kibera High Court, a protected prosecution witness guided the court through CCTV recordings from Nairobi Central Police Station on the night of June 7 and 8, 2025. The footage highlights the movements of Police Constable Peter Kimani, who was on duty as the cell sentry that evening.
The witness clearly identified Constable Kimani in various parts of the station, including areas near the cell block and the main entrance. According to standard police protocols explained in court, the cell sentry holds sole responsibility for controlling access to detention areas. Only specific individuals, such as investigating officers or those delivering meals, are typically allowed entry, while the sentry must also prevent unauthorized visits and oversee security within the cells.
Recordings captured Kimani interacting with two unidentified men at the station entrance before they moved deeper inside. The identities of these individuals remain unknown, adding layers to the ongoing investigation. Multiple camera angles were reviewed, helping to map out key locations and timelines around the station on the fateful night when Ojwang was held in custody.
This visual evidence plays a central role in the prosecution’s efforts to piece together events surrounding Ojwang’s detention and tragic death. Constable Kimani, along with former station commander Samson Talaam, another officer, and three civilians, faces murder charges, which all the accused have denied. As the hearing continues, the case continues to draw significant public attention across the country, with many seeking clarity on accountability within the justice system.
