Civil Servants Set for Salary Boost Starting August

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has confirmed that thousands of civil servants across the country will receive a salary increase effective from August 1, 2026.
The announcement, made during an engagement in Londiani, Kericho County, comes as part of a broader pay review directed by President William Ruto. This adjustment is expected to bring much-needed relief to government employees amid rising living costs, covering not only basic salaries but also various key allowances. The move aims to improve morale and productivity within the public service sector.
CS Ruku emphasized that the salary enhancement will apply to all eligible civil servants, ensuring a fair and comprehensive rollout. To facilitate smooth implementation and curb irregularities, he directed all government institutions to migrate their payroll systems to the Government Human Resource Information System without delay. This digital transition is intended to streamline payments, accurately identify legitimate workers, and eliminate ghost employees from the government payroll. Such measures are seen as crucial for fiscal responsibility and efficient public resource management
The salary review reflects the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce and addressing long-standing demands from unions and employees. For many civil servants, the increment represents a positive step toward better financial stability and recognition of their service to the nation. As preparations intensify ahead of the August deadline, public sector workers are eagerly anticipating the changes that will reflect in their payslips. This development is likely to boost confidence in the public service and contribute to overall economic well-being.
The announcement has been welcomed by stakeholders who view it as a timely intervention in the country’s labor landscape. With the migration to the new HR system underway, authorities are optimistic about a seamless process that maximizes benefits while minimizing leakages. As the date approaches, focus will remain on transparent execution to ensure every deserving civil servant reaps the rewards of this pay rise. This initiative further demonstrates ongoing efforts to strengthen the public sector workforce.
