Collapsed Building in Karen Was Not Registered

The National Construction Authority (NCA), Kenya's regulatory body for the construction sector, has announced that the building which tragically collapsed on January 10, 2026, in Karen Ward, Lang'ata Sub-County, Nairobi, was not registered with the authority.

In an official statement released to the media, the NCA reported that the single-storey structure, situated on Plot No. 12882/197 along Ngong View Lane, resulted in two fatalities, with two individuals critically injured and seven others sustaining minor injuries. All the injured have since received medical care.

The collapse happened during concrete pouring operations at the carport section of the building

According to initial evaluations, the incident is believed to have been triggered by the failure of the formwork system, which gave way under the weight of the freshly poured concrete.

The plot is registered in the name of Moses Nyakiongora, and the construction site has been officially suspended. Rescue efforts wrapped up on Sunday evening, and the location remains sealed off by authorities.

A thorough investigation is currently in progress, with a full report expected once it is completed.

This latest tragedy follows closely on the heels of another devastating incident on January 2, 2026, when a 12-storey building under construction collapsed in South C, Nairobi, claiming two lives.
