Collins Oyuu Re-elected Unopposed as Knut Secretary General

Collins Oyuu has been re-elected unopposed as Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).
The election took place during the union’s national polls held at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, where delegates from across the country gathered.
His deputy, Hesbon Otieno, was also elected unopposed. Other officials who retained or secured their positions without contest include National Chairman Patrick Karinga, First Vice National Chairman Malel Langat, Second Vice National Chairman Aggrey Namisi, National Treasurer James Ndiku, and several others. Out of the eleven national posts, only the Assistant Secretary General position was contested, with voting still ongoing for that seat.
Speaking after his re-election, Oyuu credited the union’s strong track record in fighting for teachers’ rights, which earned the trust of members. He pledged to build on past achievements and raise the bar higher to improve teachers’ welfare and terms of service. “Kumi bila break,” he said, adding that the unopposed outcome shows the faith members have in the current leadership. The fresh mandate comes at a time when KNUT continues to address key issues affecting teachers, including the new medical scheme and staffing challenges.
