Dangote Group Reportedly Lands KSh 58 Billion Kenya Refinery Deal
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, is reportedly making a major move into Kenya’s energy sector, with his conglomerate, Dangote Group, awarding India-based Engineers India Ltd (EIL) a contract valued at more than US$450 million (approximately KSh 58 billion).
According to reports published on September 22, 2026, the contract relates to the development of a proposed 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery and petrochemical complex in Kenya.
The planned facility would be a major addition to Kenya’s petroleum infrastructure and could significantly expand the country’s refining and petrochemical capacity.
The reported deal also signals growing interest in Kenya as an energy and industrial investment destination, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen its position within the wider East African market.
Engineers India Ltd, which specialises in engineering and project consultancy services for the energy sector, is expected to play a key role in the development of the proposed facility.
If the project proceeds as reported, the 700,000-barrel-per-day capacity would make it a major refining project by regional standards, with potential implications for petroleum supply, fuel imports, and the broader downstream oil industry.
Further details on the project's location, financing, construction timeline, and implementation are expected as the development progresses.
