DCI Exposes Raphael Tuju's Fake Disappearance as Elaborate Hoax, Arrests Him

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has concluded that former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju's reported vanishing was an elaborate fabrication rather than a real abduction.

On Saturday, Tuju alleged he was being pursued by suspicious individuals in an unmarked Land Cruiser, leading him to ditch his vehicle along Miotoni Lane in Karen and seek shelter in a Kiambu residence with assistance from unidentified good Samaritans. He notified the police about the supposed chase before his phone went off at around 6:16 pm, prompting his family to file a missing person report and sparking a full-scale investigation.

A meticulous forensic examination by the DCI, led by Director Amin Mohamed, uncovered that Tuju had actually remained concealed inside his own Karen home the entire time. When investigators attempted to enter the property, his family reportedly blocked access, intensifying suspicions and resulting in the area being cordoned off by a team of uniformed and plainclothes officers while a search warrant was obtained from the court. Confronted with irrefutable evidence disproving his story, Tuju emerged from hiding and was promptly arrested at Karen Police Station, where he is being questioned about his true whereabouts, the missing person report lodged by relatives, and details of the alleged helpers.

DCI Director Amin Mohamed described the incident as a deliberate hoax designed to deceive the public and shake confidence in national security agencies. "This was a carefully staged disappearance rather than a genuine case of abduction," he stated, stressing that supplying false information constitutes a serious offense. The National Police Service has labeled the actions as an attempt to undermine trust in institutions responsible for public safety, and no further probe into an actual kidnapping is being pursued.
