DCI Launches Probe into Ol Kalou By-Election Violence
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has opened a formal file to examine reports of chaos and suspicious armed figures during the recent parliamentary by-election in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County.
Speaking during an event in Trans Nzoia County, the CS emphasized that authorities are determined to identify those involved, establish the nature of any offences committed, and hold perpetrators accountable through the full force of the law. He stressed the importance of public cooperation, calling on anyone with direct knowledge or evidence to come forward and provide statements to investigators.
This move comes amid circulating videos and images showing hooded individuals causing disturbances in the area, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. Murkomen dismissed unverified claims, including those from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding alleged sexual abuse of women, urging that such serious accusations must be backed by concrete proof submitted to the relevant agencies for proper handling. He appealed for calm and urged political actors to avoid inflammatory language that could deepen divisions along ethnic lines, reminding leaders that winning a single seat should never come at the cost of national stability
The developments highlight ongoing tensions in the constituency following the by-election, where reports of voter intimidation, clashes between rival supporters, and other irregularities had already drawn attention from bodies like the IEBC and human rights groups.
