Leaders from the Democracy for Citizens Party have stepped up efforts to solidify their hold on the mountain region, insisting their outfit remains the strongest force ahead of the next general election.
During recent community visits across Nyeri County, the party’s top figures rallied supporters and cautioned residents against falling for new political outfits that they believe aim to fragment local unity. Accompanied by allies from the Wiper Patriotic Front, they moved through key towns including Karatina, Gatitu and Nyeri Town, delivering a clear message of loyalty and readiness for the polls.
The party leader stressed that only one political home exists for the mountain people and urged voters to reject any attempts to dilute their collective strength. He told crowds that from the governor’s office down to the lowest elective seats, the choice must remain clear and unified under their banner. His secretary general echoed the call, asking residents of Mathira and beyond to elect every candidate on the party ticket, declaring it the true voice of the mountain community.
Sharp criticism was directed at the president, whom officials accused of encouraging the formation of smaller parties, including one linked to a Murang’a lawmaker, purely to weaken the mountain bloc. The secretary general described these efforts as temporary tools that would ultimately fail, comparing them to earlier failed attempts and vowing that any such challenge would meet the same firm response. The party leader further claimed the head of state was trying to split the region into artificial east and west zones while ignoring its expanding southern reach.
Opposition partners travelling with the team reinforced the message of shared purpose. A Wiper representative from Kathiani expressed full solidarity, noting that while the mountain rallies behind one party, their own side sweeps support in its base and has joined the broader journey. Another senior figure raised concerns over alleged use of hired groups to disrupt peaceful political activities, calling on citizens to stay vigilant if official protection falls short.
As the tours continue, the Democracy for Citizens Party positions itself as the decisive player in the mountain region of the country and signals that any outside efforts to create division will be met with organised resistance. The combined presence of Wiper leaders underscores an expanding opposition network determined to challenge the incumbent administration in the coming contest, with mountain voters urged to remain focused and undivided.
