DCP Sets KSh 250,000 Nomination Fee for Ol Kalou By-Election Aspirants

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has announced a non-refundable nomination fee of KSh 250,000 for anyone seeking the party ticket to contest the upcoming Member of Parliament seat in Ol Kalou Constituency.
This fee applies to general aspirants interested in the by-election scheduled for July 16, 2026. The party, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, released the details as it opens the race to field a candidate following the death of the previous MP, David Njuguna Kiaraho.
To promote wider participation, the DCP has reduced the fee by half for special categories. Youth aspirants and persons with disabilities will pay only KSh 125,000. This lower amount aims to give younger people and those living with disabilities a better chance to compete without facing heavy financial barriers. The party has invited interested individuals to submit their applications and pay the required fee as part of the internal nomination process.
The decision comes as several political parties prepare to compete for the vacant Ol Kalou seat in Nyandarua County. DCP officials have stated that the nominations will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner to select the best candidate to represent the party in the by-election. Aspirants must meet all other requirements set by the party and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), including being registered voters and fulfilling any additional documentation needed.
This fee structure is similar to what other major parties have used in recent by-elections. While some observers view nomination fees as a way for parties to raise funds for campaigns, others argue that high amounts can limit competition, especially for candidates without strong financial backing. With the by-election date approaching, aspirants in Ol Kalou now have a clearer picture of the costs involved if they choose to run under the DCP banner. The party is expected to announce further details on the exact nomination timeline and procedures in the coming days.
