Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi says Kenya has adequate fuel stocks.

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has assured the public that Kenya currently has enough fuel stocks to meet national demand.

Speaking in the Senate, he explained that the government-to-government fuel importation arrangement has helped maintain stability. This system has proven reliable even as global oil markets face challenges due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The minister’s statement aims to calm worries following recent reports of fuel shortages in parts of the country, especially in Nairobi.

Wandayi acknowledged that some petrol stations recently ran out of fuel, causing inconvenience to motorists. He clarified that these temporary shortages were not due to lack of supply but resulted from a technical problem that affected how some oil marketing companies collected their fuel. According to the minister, the issue was quickly identified and fixed, and normal distribution is now being restored step by step across affected areas.

The government-to-government importation model has been praised for bringing more predictability to fuel supply. By dealing directly with other governments, Kenya has been able to secure steady supplies at reasonable costs, reducing the impact of international price swings. Wandayi noted that this approach continues to protect the country from sudden disruptions that often affect nations relying only on open market purchases.

As supplies return to normal, motorists are advised to avoid panic buying so that the recovery process can proceed smoothly. The Energy Cabinet Secretary encouraged continued confidence in the current fuel supply system while the government works on long-term solutions to prevent future interruptions. This latest update brings relief to businesses and households that depend on reliable fuel for daily transport and operations.
