EPRA Maintains Stable Fuel Prices in Kenya for March-April 2026

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has confirmed that pump prices for petrol, diesel, and kerosene will remain unchanged across Kenya for the next 30-day cycle starting in March 2026.

In the capital, Nairobi, super petrol stays at KSh 178.28 per litre, diesel at KSh 166.54, and kerosene at KSh 152.78. Comparable stable pricing applies in other key towns: Mombasa lists petrol at KSh 175.00, Nakuru at KSh 177.34, and Eldoret at KSh 178.15. The fixed rates incorporate the current 16% VAT, excise duty adjustments, and other levies, providing short-term predictability for consumers.

Despite modest increases in the landed cost of imported fuels—super petrol up by 1%, diesel by 8.46%, and kerosene by 6.79%—during the February 10 to March 9 review window, EPRA decided against passing on the extra costs. The regulator noted that the majority of shipments were procured at earlier, lower prices before recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, began to influence global oil markets. This timing has shielded Kenyan drivers and households from an immediate price surge.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi reassured Kenyans that national fuel stocks remain adequate, with no immediate shortage risks on the horizon. He encouraged the public to avoid panic buying and emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to secure reliable supply chains through government-to-government arrangements. The announcement has been received positively as a welcome breather for motorists and businesses facing broader economic pressures, though analysts caution that future reviews could see adjustments if international tensions persist.
