EPRA reduces petrol price by 22 cents as diesel drops by Ksh.10

Motorists across the country can look forward to some welcome savings at filling stations starting this week.

Effective from June 15, petrol prices have been trimmed by 22 cents per litre while diesel has seen a more substantial reduction of Ksh 10 per litre. Kerosene prices remain unchanged. This adjustment offers a timely break for households and businesses that depend on these fuels for daily operations and transportation needs.

In Nairobi, super petrol will now retail at Ksh 214.03 per litre, down from the previous rate. Diesel drops to Ksh 222.86 per litre, providing significant savings especially for transporters, farmers, and public service vehicle operators who rely heavily on it. The stable kerosene price stands at Ksh 191.38 per litre. These new rates reflect a careful balance of international oil market movements, recent tax adjustments, and local regulatory efforts to support consumers.

The authority is utilising the Petroleum Development Levy Fund to help cushion the impact on consumers during this review period. Around Ksh 10 billion from the fund will specifically support diesel and kerosene prices. This move builds on earlier VAT reductions on petroleum products, demonstrating ongoing commitment to keeping fuel costs manageable amid global fluctuations and domestic economic pressures.

For many Kenyans, these revisions come as welcome news that could ease the burden on tight budgets. From family commutes to large-scale logistics, the lower diesel price in particular is expected to have positive ripple effects across various sectors. As authorities continue regular monitoring, such measures help maintain stability in the energy sector and support broader economic activities in the country. Drivers are advised to check local station prices as the new rates take effect.
