Eric Omondi Hospitalised With Injury Hours After Starting Walk to Mombasa

Comedian and activist Eric Omondi was rushed to hospital after injuring his left leg and hip ligaments just hours into his ambitious 486-kilometer charity walk from Nairobi to Mombasa.

The journey, called the "Walk of Love," kicked off on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. He aimed to complete the trek in five days, arriving at Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa by Saturday, February 14. On the first day alone, Omondi covered more than 68 kilometers, reaching Machakos before the pain forced him to stop.

The injury happened due to the intense excitement and physical strain of the challenge's start. That evening, Omondi shared an update, saying he had torn ligaments but remained determined: "We must reach Mombasa by all means... Tomorrow we will continue even if it means to crawl." Despite being hospitalized for treatment, he refused to give up on the goal and even asked supporters to "buy kilometers" on his behalf at Ksh 15,000 each, meaning donations could cover distances he wouldn't have to walk physically.

The walk is part of Omondi's Sisi kwa Sisi initiative to raise money for a Help and Rescue Centre, which will feature a warehouse, ambulances, a clinic, and a free secondary school. Since launching the project in 2024, he has raised over Ksh 70 million for community causes. As of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Omondi was receiving medical care but stayed committed to pushing forward with the mission.
