Farmer in Kinangop Loses 48 Cows to Poisoning.
In a devastating blow to a dairy farmer in Kinangop , Nyandarua County, 48 cows—primarily high-breed dairy animals—died suddenly in what appears to be a case of food poisoning or deliberate poisoning.
The incident came to light early on January 11, 2026, when the farmer reportedly woke up to a heartbreaking scene: dozens of his cows already dead, while others showed severe distress, including bloated stomachs and difficulty breathing.
Many social media posts circulating since Saturday describe it as a "dark and painful day" for the affected farm, with years of hard work, investment, and emotional attachment wiped out overnight.
The cows lost were high-value, high-breed dairy cows central to the farmer's livelihood. The financial loss is estimated in the millions of Kenyan shillings, not to mention the emotional toll on the family and workers. Dairy farming in regions like Kinangop relies heavily on such herds for milk production and income.
