FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 : England Edge Mexico 3-2.
England produced a resilient performance to defeat co-hosts Mexico 3-2 in a dramatic Round of 16 match at the Estadio Azteca.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Three Lions secured their place in the quarterfinals with goals from Jude Bellingham (36' and 38') and a Harry Kane penalty (60'). Mexico fought back with strikes from Julián Quiñones (42') and a Raúl Jiménez penalty (69'), but England held firm to advance.
Bellingham opened the scoring with a superb diving header from Bukayo Saka's cross, then added a quick second shortly after. Mexico pulled one back before halftime through Quiñones. After Jarell Quansah received a straight red card following a VAR review in the 54th minute, Kane converted a penalty to make it 3-1. Mexico responded with Jiménez's spot-kick, but England defended bravely to secure the win.
The victory sets up a quarterfinal meeting with Norway, who stunned Brazil earlier. England will be without the suspended Quansah, but Thomas Tuchel's side showed great character in a hostile environment.
