From Webuye To The WORLD : Collins Sichenje Joins Charlton Athletic in Championship Move

Harambee Stars centre-back Collins Lusaka Sichenje has sealed a transfer to English Championship club Charlton Athletic, putting pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal that runs until the summer of 2029.

The 22-year-old, originally from western Kenya, arrives at The Valley from Serbian SuperLiga club FK Vojvodina for an undisclosed fee, marking a significant leap in his career and positioning him among the select group of Kenyan talents competing in England's second tier.

Sichenje's journey began locally with Green Commandos, followed by a standout stint at AFC Leopards that drew overseas attention. He then gained European experience through clubs in Greece, Sweden, and Finland before establishing himself at Vojvodina, where his commanding presence, physicality, and calm defending caught the eye.

In his first comments after the move, Sichenje called it a proud milestone and expressed his eagerness to contribute to Charlton's ambitions. He emphasized his commitment to hard work, personal growth, and supporting the team's objectives.

Charlton officials revealed they had monitored the Kenyan international closely for some time, accelerating their pursuit during the January window. Managing Director James Rodwell noted Sichenje was initially targeted for a summer arrival but they acted decisively now as part of their long-term squad-building plan. Head coach Nathan Jones highlighted the defender's aggression, strength, and considerable upside, praising him as a valuable addition.

Having earned his first senior cap for Kenya in 2021, Sichenje now steps into the Championship fray as Charlton continue their campaign. This transfer is poised to motivate aspiring young players across Kenya dreaming of thriving in top European leagues.
