Fuel Crisis Bites Busia as Drivers Flock to Uganda for Petrol

More than five petrol filling stations in Busia County have been closed following a severe fuel shortage currently being witnessed in various parts of the country.

The situation has forced boda boda riders and drivers to cross into the neighbouring country of Uganda in search of petrol, a move that has significantly increased operational costs and disrupted daily activities.

Speaking to journalists, some of the boda boda riders expressed their frustration, calling on the government to take immediate action. They questioned why fuel is readily available in Uganda while Kenya continues to experience shortages, yet the main supply route to Uganda passes through Kenya.

Residents are now urging the President to intervene without delay and restore the normal supply of fuel while demanding clear answers on the cause of the ongoing shortage.

The fuel shortage is reported to have begun in recent days in several parts of the country, with industry players attributing it to supply chain disruptions, delayed fuel imports, and logistical challenges in distribution. Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive explanation, even as efforts continue to stabilize the situation.
