Gachagua Names Methu as DCP Secretary General

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made a bold leadership move by appointing Nyandarua Senator John Methu as the new Secretary General designate of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
The announcement came during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi on May 25, 2026. Methu, who steps into the role previously held by Hezron Obaga, will also serve as the party’s official spokesperson while awaiting formal approval from the Registrar of Political Parties.
This strategic appointment signals Gachagua’s push to strengthen the party’s organizational muscle as it prepares for key electoral battles. Methu has been immediately tasked with spearheading DCP’s campaign for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election scheduled for July 16. Party leaders expressed confidence that his experience and local connections in Nyandarua will help deliver a strong victory and build momentum for broader ambitions in 2027.
Alongside Methu’s elevation, Gachagua unveiled additional appointments to bolster the party structure. These include new secretaries for Information and Technology, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, as well as chairs for county coordination and students’ affairs. The moves aim to create a more dynamic and inclusive team capable of handling growing interest from aspirants across the country who want to contest under the DCP banner.
The former Deputy President assured party members and potential candidates that DCP remains committed to conducting free and fair nominations. As the party continues to expand its footprint, this latest reshuffle highlights Gachagua’s determination to position DCP as a formidable force in Kenya’s evolving political landscape, focused on unity and practical solutions for citizens.
