Government Reassures Motorists on Fuel Availability Amid Global Concerns

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has called on Kenyan drivers to remain calm and avoid rushing to fill up their tanks unnecessarily.

Speaking during a session with parliamentarians, he explained that the country currently holds enough petrol to last 16 days, diesel for 19 days, and kerosene for 49 days. These figures come from recent data provided by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, based on stocks recorded at the end of March.

Mbadi stressed that more shipments of fuel are already on the way and will reach the country soon, helping to keep supplies steady. He noted that filling a tank completely might only cover a week of normal use before drivers return to their usual routines, so there is no benefit in buying extra fuel out of worry. The message aims to prevent any sudden rush at petrol stations that could create artificial shortages or long queues across the country.

The reassurance comes at a time when some parts of the world are facing pressure on fuel supplies due to international events. Mbadi added that the government is closely watching the situation and considering ways to keep prices stable for ordinary Kenyans, including possible adjustments in taxation on fuel. He urged everyone to trust that authorities are managing the matter carefully to ensure reliable access to petroleum products for daily needs and economic activities.
