Government To Pay Village Elders Ksh. 3,000 As Mp'S To Push For More

The government of Kenya through the ministry of interior and national administration PS Raymond Omollo as he appeared in the National Assembly departmental committee on Wednesday 13th, has proposed a defined plan to pay elders a total of Ksh.3,000 per month.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo unveiled the plan on May 13, 2026, during scrunity of the 2026/2027 budget estimates before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security.
Under the plan, each verified village elder would receive ksh 3000 per month starting the next financial year, pending Parliament's approval. The ministry of interior says it has completed a policy framework and identification criteria after nearly a decade of consultations.
In April 2025, the cabinet secretary for interior security Kipchumba murkomen championed the policy stating it would help village elders gain financial recognition to maintain peace. In addition members of Parliament led by Narok West MP. Gabriel Togoyo pushed for the increase of stipends from ksh.3000 to ksh.5000 a proposal welcomed by the lawmakers initiative that applauded the government for recognizing the village elders.
