Governor Kang’ata Sustains Injuries After a Freak Accident in Nairobi

Murang'a County Governor Irungu Kang'ata sustained an injury to his heel tendons today after tripping during an international meeting in Nairobi, according to a statement from the Murang'a County Government.

The incident, described as a freak accident, occurred while the governor was attending a session organized by Nutrition International, a Canadian government-supported organization focused on nutrition and public health initiatives. The mishap happened in the course of the meeting, leading to immediate medical assessment and treatment for the governor.

The county government confirmed that Kang'ata is currently receiving treatment and has been advised by medical professionals to avoid physical office engagements for approximately one month to ensure full recovery. During this period, he is expected to participate in official meetings virtually starting next week. Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will step in to represent him at functions requiring physical presence, while County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiari, will handle designated responsibilities as needed. The administration emphasized that executive authority remains fully functional through constitutional delegation, ensuring no disruption to service delivery in Murang'a County.

In their official statement, the Murang'a County Government expressed gratitude to residents for their support and wished the governor a speedy recovery. They noted that Kang'ata had been scheduled to oversee the operationalization of key health facilities, including Mabae Dispensary in Gatanga and Karinga Dispensary in Kigumo, highlighting their importance for public health. The low-key nature of the incident has drawn well-wishes from across the political spectrum, with many noting the governor's active role in county affairs despite the setback. No further complications have been reported, and the focus remains on his rehabilitation.
