Governor Otuoma Cracks Down on Drug Diversion! 😊 Orders Shutdown of Pharmacies Outside Busia County Referral Hospital, Targets Health Service Improvement"
Busia County Governor, Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma, has ordered the shutdown of pharmacies selling drugs outside the gate of the Busia County Referral Hospital. The order follows his visit to the hospital, where he noted that some of these pharmacies are owned by health workers, contributing to the loss of drugs despite the county's investment in healthcare.
"Kuna wale ambao wamefungua biashara za kibinafsi, kuuza madawa nje ya hospitali yetu , wengine wao wagonjwa wanapokuja kutibiwa wanawatuma kwenye hizo chemist zao kununua dawa.ukichunguza vizuri ni madawa wamezitoa hapa wanawauzia wagonjwa kule kwao. Hatutakubali"
Otuoma's directive comes after the Senate Health Committee raised concerns about the proliferation of pharmacies near the hospital during a field visit. The move aims to curb the diversion of drugs and improve healthcare services in the county.
He has further directed the hospital management to urgently restore full operations in critical units, inclusive the renal unit and CT scan services stressing that adequate funds are available to repair or replace broken equipment, terming any service disruption due to non - functional machines as unacceptable.
