IEBC Unveils Ballot Colours for 2027 Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has revealed the official colours for ballot papers and matching ballot box lids that will be used in the 2027 General Elections.

Each of the six elective positions will have its own distinct colour to help voters and election staff easily identify the correct papers and boxes. The clear visual system aims to reduce confusion at polling stations across the country.

According to the commission, the presidential race will use white ballot papers and lids. Green has been assigned to Members of the National Assembly, while beige will represent Members of County Assembly. The senatorial position will feature yellow, gubernatorial contests will use light blue, and Women Representative ballots will appear in purple.

The colour-coding approach is designed to make the voting process smoother and more organised. By linking every ballot paper to a matching lid colour, officials hope to minimise mix-ups and speed up the identification of votes for each position. This practical measure is expected to support a more orderly election day experience for both voters and poll workers.

In the same announcement, the electoral body encouraged people in the country who have not yet registered as voters to do so without delay. Registration remains available at constituency offices and Huduma Centres nationwide. Completing this step early will ensure eligible citizens are fully prepared to take part when the time comes.

With the 2027 polls still some distance away, the early release of ballot colours signals steady progress in election preparations. The commission continues to refine systems that promote transparency and ease of use, giving the public a clearer picture of how voting will be conducted when citizens next head to the polls.
