IG Kanja: DCI Boss Mohamed Amin Is Here to Stay

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has dismissed reports that DCI Director Mohamed Amin is set to leave office.

Speaking on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Kanja said the National Police Service has not received any official communication regarding the DCI boss’s tenure. He described the circulating reports as inaccurate, premature, and misleading.

“Amin remains in office. He is here to stay,” Kanja stated clearly. The IG emphasised that no decision has been made to replace the DCI Director and urged the public to ignore the rumours. The statement comes after social media and some online platforms claimed that Amin’s term was ending or that a replacement had already been identified.

Mohamed Amin has been heading the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for the past few years and has been at the centre of several high-profile investigations, including the recent Kericho mass grave case. The National Police Service has called on Kenyans to rely only on official government communications regarding leadership changes in security agencies.

The clear reassurance from IG Kanja is expected to calm speculation and allow the DCI to continue its work without distraction. No further details were given on when or if Amin’s contract will be reviewed in the future.
