Jalang’o Declares Bid for Nairobi Senate Seat, Accuses Sifuna of Failing Residents

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has launched a sharp critique of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, claiming he has failed to deliver effective representation and oversight for Nairobians.

In an interview on TV47’s Ukumbi Wa Siasa program aired on Tuesday, February 25, 2026, Jalang’o accused Sifuna of neglecting his constitutional duties as a senator, particularly in holding county leadership accountable. He stated that the lack of proper oversight in Nairobi County has contributed to ongoing issues, prompting him to eye the senatorial position in the 2027 general elections.

Jalang’o emphasized his own performance as Lang’ata MP, highlighting tangible projects and improvements that have earned appreciation from his constituents. He argued that while no leader can completely eliminate problems, effective leadership involves making meaningful progress, drawing parallels to long-serving past presidents who could not resolve all national challenges. Dismissing rumors that he is a "government project" to unseat Sifuna, Jalang’o asserted his independence and long-term ambitions, saying he aims to serve five strong years as senator, then potentially pursue the governorship and even the presidency afterward.

The declaration intensifies political rivalry ahead of 2027, with Jalang’o positioning himself as a hands-on alternative focused on delivery and presence. He stressed the need for fair and active representation for Nairobi residents, vowing to showcase results similar to those in Lang’ata if elected. This move comes amid broader discussions on accountability in Nairobi's leadership and follows earlier reports of Jalang’o signaling interest in challenging the incumbent senator.
