Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has said it has no academic records showing that Kimilili MP Didmus Wekesa Barasa was a student at the university.

In a letter dated September 14, 2026, the university’s Registrar of Academic Affairs, Dr Aggrey Wanyama, told the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) that a review of its records had been conducted to verify Barasa’s academic qualifications.

According to the letter, Barasa’s name does not appear in JKUAT’s student records or alumni records. The university also states that it did not have a graduation involving him in May 2008.

The letter concerns a certificate attributed to JKUAT for a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree. JKUAT states that, based on its records, the certificate is “NOT GENUINE.”

The university further says the matter had previously been investigated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), and that the same information had been communicated to both institutions.

The communication was signed by Dr Wanyama in his capacity as Registrar (Academic Affairs) and copied to the university’s Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs.

The letter is an official communication from JKUAT concerning the verification of the qualification. It records the university’s findings from its academic records and does not, by itself, set out any separate determination by EACC or EBK.
