Kenya Space Agency to Launch Climate Camera to International Space Station

The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) has announced plans to send a climate monitoring camera to the International Space Station (ISS).

The device will provide real-time weather and climate data to help improve forecasting and environmental management in Kenya and the region. This marks another important step in Kenya’s growing space programme.

The climate camera is scheduled to be launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on April 8, 2026. Once installed on the ISS, the camera will capture high-resolution images and data that can be used to monitor weather patterns, track climate change effects, and support early warning systems for droughts, floods, and other natural disasters. Kenyan scientists will have direct access to the information collected from space.

This initiative is part of Kenya’s broader efforts to use space technology for national development. Officials at the Kenya Space Agency believe the project will strengthen the country’s capacity in satellite technology and climate science. The successful deployment of the camera is expected to boost Kenya’s profile in the global space community and provide practical benefits for agriculture, disaster preparedness, and environmental protection.
