Kenya and Uganda have strengthened their partnership in the fight against climate change, launching a major cross-border environmental initiative that has already seen the planting of 30,000 fruit and indigenous trees along a 30-kilometre stretch spanning both nations.

Speaking during the event, Western Region Forester Stephen Echesa highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that it goes beyond symbolic action and marks the beginning of long-term collaboration between Kenya and Uganda,.

Echesa emphasized that the partnership is designed not only to reduce carbon emissions but also to create green job opportunities for communities living along the border.

Nambale Assistant County Commissioner Sheila Lagat called on local residents to take advantage of the ongoing rainy season to plant more trees. She linked the initiative to the national target of planting 15 billion trees by the year 2032, urging communities to actively participate in achieving the presidential directive.

He noted that communities along the Kenya-Uganda border are directly dependent on natural resources, making conservation efforts critical to their survival.
