A dedicated mathematics educator in Kenya has achieved an extraordinary feat by teaching non-stop for an impressive 45 hours, claiming a new Guinness World Record.

Fenwick Cyril Maloba from Menengai High School embarked on this challenging endeavour to show that mathematics can be approachable and even enjoyable rather than intimidating. His effort not only shattered the previous global mark but also highlighted the power of passion in transforming how students view learning.

Maloba kicked off the marathon on a Friday morning under the inspiring slogan “Maths is not a monster; it’s a marathon.” By Saturday afternoon, he had already surpassed the old record of roughly 31 hours and 43 minutes set by a Nigerian mathematician the previous year. Undeterred by fatigue, he continued through the night and wrapped up on Sunday morning, leaving participants and observers amazed by his stamina and commitment to the cause.

Strict Guinness World Record guidelines governed every aspect of the attempt, including continuous video and audio recording, independent witnesses working in shifts, and rotating groups of students to keep the classroom active at all times. The teacher could take only five minutes of break per hour taught, which he managed wisely to sustain his energy levels. Preparations involved weeks of physical training, careful lesson planning, and a disciplined diet to build the necessary endurance.

Many who joined the sessions, including adults who had been out of school for years, expressed delight at how engaging the lessons felt. The achievement, pending official confirmation from Guinness officials, stands as a powerful testament to perseverance and creativity in education. Maloba’s record is expected to motivate learners across the country to tackle subjects they once feared with renewed confidence and enthusiasm.
