Khalwale Sets Burial Date for Late Wife

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has confirmed that his late wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The funeral will take place at the family home in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency within Kakamega County. He shared the date on Monday afternoon, August 17, just two days after the sudden loss that has left the household in mourning.

“We shall bury Mama on Friday, 21/08/26, at Malinya,” the senator stated while releasing the funeral programme. According to the arrangements, Gloria’s body will be collected from the mortuary on Thursday, August 20, in preparation for the burial service the following day. The family included a scriptural reflection, noting that “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints,” drawn from Psalm 116:15.

Gloria passed away on Saturday, August 15, after collapsing from a heart attack. The unexpected nature of her death prompted an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, friends and people across the country who rallied around the senator and his relatives. She was the mother of eight of Khalwale’s children, among them Engine Kukaste, Olivia Sabayi, Flavia Shimuli, Gift Atubukha, Meliza Khamwenyi, Velma Nasiebanda, Sonia Inuni and Maura Makatse Khalwale.

In their tribute the family remembered Gloria for her love, kindness and enduring strength, qualities they said would remain cherished. The loss comes nearly seven years after Khalwale buried his first wife, Adelaide, who died in October 2019 and was also interred at the same family home in Malinya. Relatives are now focused on final preparations for the Friday service.

As the date approaches, the senator and his children continue to receive support while organising the farewell. The gathering at Malinya is expected to draw mourners who wish to honour Gloria’s memory and stand with a family navigating a second profound bereavement in less than a decade.
