Kigame Faults Easy Coach, Vihiga County After Narrowly Escaping Accident

Reuben Kigame, a former presidential hopeful, had a close call with disaster early Sunday morning on the Kapsabet-Chavakali highway in Vihiga County.
Around 5 a.m., while heading to give a talk at the University of Eldoret, an oncoming Easy Coach bus sped past another vehicle in a risky overtake. To prevent a direct crash, Kigame had to jerk his car off the tarmac and down into a roadside ditch. Luckily, everyone inside walked away unharmed, though the vehicle stayed lodged in the trench until rescuers came to pull it out.
Kigame took to his X account to voice strong anger over the near-miss. He accused Easy Coach of letting an irresponsible driver behind the wheel, claiming the bus had its bright lights blazing while aggressively pushing other traffic aside. He went further, pointing fingers at Vihiga County officials, KeNHA, and NTSA for failing to fix the terrible road conditions—especially the notorious stretch at Shiru, which he called outright hazardous for such a heavily used corridor. Despite the scare, Kigame thanked God for keeping them safe and gave special appreciation to a local man, Mr. Manasseh Kijo, along with his group of helpers who stopped to assist.
The frightening episode once again shines a light on ongoing worries about dangerous driving habits and neglected road infrastructure in that part of Kenya. Kigame’s outspoken criticism calls for real changes from the bus operator and the government bodies in charge of transport safety and highway upkeep, hoping to stop similar incidents from happening to others in the future.
