Linda Mwananchi Website Taken Offline Following Massive Cyberattacks

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has temporarily pulled down its newly launched Linda Mwananchi website after it faced intense cyberattacks shortly following its debut.

The platform went live on Friday, March 13, 2026, and quickly drew thousands of sign-ups from supporters, reflecting strong public interest in the initiative. ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna confirmed the decision to take the site offline, citing both the overwhelming malicious attacks and the need to implement technical enhancements based on user input.

In a statement shared on X, Sifuna expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic response while acknowledging the challenges encountered. He stated, "We have taken the site offline to address the issues and incorporate your ideas. We ask for your patience." He further noted that the team anticipated such hostile online activity given the platform's rapid popularity, alongside receiving hundreds of constructive suggestions for improvements. The Linda Mwananchi movement, associated with figures like Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and others advocating certain ideological positions within ODM, has been active amid ongoing party divisions.

The website remains inaccessible as the team works to resolve the security vulnerabilities and integrate public feedback. No specific timeline has been provided for when it will be restored. This incident highlights the cybersecurity risks faced by political platforms in Kenya, particularly those gaining swift traction during periods of internal party debates and factional activities involving groups like Linda Mwananchi and the opposing Linda Ground faction.
