Lugari Mp Files Defamation Case Against Kakamega DG Ayub Savula.

A fierce legal dispute has broken out between Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera and Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula over claims of defamatory comments concerning the legislator's health

Nabwera has lodged a defamation lawsuit in the High Court, alleging that Savula made public statements implying he is HIV-positive—accusations the MP firmly rejects as baseless.

In the court documents, Nabwera contends that the statements were broadcast publicly and spread widely, exposing him to severe stigma, intense public examination, and lasting damage to his reputation. He describes the remarks as irresponsible, untrue, and intentionally designed to undermine his standing as a political figure.

The MP asserts that the allegations have inflicted significant emotional suffering and threaten to undermine trust in his leadership among constituents and the wider community.

Among his demands, Nabwera is requesting a court directive for both parties to undergo an HIV test under strict medical supervision. He proposes the procedure be carried out openly by qualified health experts, with media access allowed for transparency.

Nabwera explains that this step aims to conclusively refute the claims and halt what he calls vicious and unfounded attacks.

Represented by advocate Danstan Omari, the legislator highlights that the matter raises important issues about the weaponization of private health information in political rivalries, stressing that such actions fuel discrimination and violate basic human respect.
