LUGARI MP NABIII NABWERA SUES AYUB SAVULA FOR KSH.70 MILLION IN DEFAMATION CASE

In an escalating political feud in Western Kenya, Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has filed a KSh 70 million defamation lawsuit against Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula.
The suit, lodged through nabii's prominent lawyer , accuses Savula of making damaging and false statements that have tarnished Nabwera's reputation.
The case stems from alleged remarks by Savula, who reportedly referred to Nabwera as a "mad man" and claimed that the MP is HIV-positive. These statements were purportedly made in public, leading Nabwera to seek compensation for the harm to his personal and professional image
"Aliniwekelea ati niko na ukimwi!"
Nabwera's legal team argues that such claims not only violate his dignity but also expose him to public ridicule and potential discrimination in a region where HIV stigma remains a sensitive issue.
The lawsuit was officially filed on January 8, 2026, and has quickly drawn attention amid ongoing political tensions in Kakamega County.
Nabwera's camp has demanded a public apology from Savula, in addition to the financial damages.
"Kama Savula ni mwanaume na nusu, aje tupimwe" Nabwera reportedly challenged, underscoring his intent to clear his name through medical evidence if needed.
The case is set to be heard in the coming weeks, with both sides preparing for what could be a high-profile courtroom battle.
Savula, a seasoned politician and former Lugari MP himself, has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
