LUGARI, KAKAMEGA -The Officer Commanding Lumakanda Police Station, Chief Inspector Wycliffe Kwendo, is in police custody as detectives investigate an alleged sexual offence involving a 16-year-old girl.
The officer is reportedly being held at Kakamega Police Station as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) pursues inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to information contained in a police Occurrence Book entry referenced as OB No. 14/27/09/2026, the matter was reported in connection with an incident at Kambi Moto in the Kipkaren River area of Lugari.
Preliminary accounts presented to investigators indicate that the minor's parents were allegedly persuaded to leave their home after being informed of a purported security operation. They are said to have travelled with the officer to a nearby establishment before later returning home.
Upon their return, the parents allegedly found their house locked from inside, with the minor subsequently opening the door.
The family has made allegations concerning what they say occurred at the residence. They have also reported that the officer allegedly threatened them with a firearm, took their mobile phones and left the premises with money.
The specific allegations are yet to be independently established, and police have not publicly confirmed all the details contained in the family's account.
The minor was subsequently taken to Lumakanda Sub-County Hospital for medical examination and treatment. The medical assessment is understood to form part of the investigative process.
The Western Region DCI has reportedly taken over the investigation as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether criminal charges should be preferred.
Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has called for a swift and transparent investigation, urging the relevant authorities to handle the matter in accordance with the law and protect the interests of the minor.
The National Police Service had not issued a detailed public statement on the case by the time of publication.
Chief Inspector Kwendo had not been arraigned in court at the time of reporting. The allegations remain under investigation and have not been proven in court.
The identity of the minor has been withheld in keeping with the need to protect children involved in alleged sexual offences.
