Malala Backs Sifuna for Deputy President.

Democracy for the Citizens Party deputy leader Cleophas Malala has thrown his weight behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the ideal candidate for deputy president.

Speaking during a recent interview, Malala praised Sifuna’s capabilities while affirming that party leader Rigathi Gachagua remains the preferred presidential flagbearer for the group. This endorsement highlights ongoing efforts to build a strong united opposition front.

Malala stressed that his support for Sifuna aligns with broader coalition goals rather than creating internal conflict. He pointed to the need for strategic partnerships in the country’s political landscape, noting that no single individual can succeed alone. The DCP official suggested the opposition could adopt a coalition model similar to past successful alliances to maximize their chances ahead of 2027.

According to Malala, decisions on the ultimate presidential candidate will emerge through negotiations among coalition partners. He made it clear that he would fully back Sifuna if given the top ticket, or support him in the number two position if that proves more strategic. Regional solidarity and community interests also factored into his reasoning.

This public stance reflects the dynamic conversations shaping opposition strategies as various leaders position themselves for the upcoming election cycle. With Gachagua eyeing the presidency, Malala’s comments signal a willingness to foster unity while promoting capable figures like Sifuna for complementary roles in a potential future administration.
