Manhunt Launched for Father Accused of Impregnating Teenage Daughter In Baringo
Police in Baringo County have launched a determined search for a man accused of sexually abusing and impregnating his teenage daughter, an incident that has devastated one family and heightened worries about teenage pregnancies in Baringo North.
The alleged offences took place in Kitibei Village within Saimo Ward and have left the young girl withdrawn from school while her mother now lives without a home and lives in constant fear.
According to the girl’s account, her father began separating her from her brothers and sisters, offering her presents and requiring her to join him on trips to collect firewood or water. Her mother grew uneasy about the closeness and repeatedly asked her husband where he was going, only to face threats in return. “Usiku baba anatoka namuuliza anaenda wapi……ananitishia maisha anakuwa mbaya, anachukua kisu……” the mother recalled.
When she turned to village elders and the local chief for help, her worries were brushed aside as ordinary parental care.
The truth emerged only after the teenager became pregnant and later delivered a child. “Badala ya kuchunga mtoto na kulea anatia mimba….najiuliza mtu atende kitu kama hii ni vizuri kweli?” the mother asked. The young mother, now caring for a two-month-old baby, has been placed in a safe house while officials work to protect her; her chance of returning to school remains unclear.
Local residents have expressed strong anger, viewing the case as a serious breach of a child’s right to safety. “We condemn the acts of the man, we condemn incest, we thought home is the safest place for our girls,” said resident Sylvia Mutai.
Paralegal Lucilla Kandie noted that many survivors in rural areas never obtain justice because communities often settle such matters through informal gatherings rather than the formal courts. “Zingine wanafanya kwa kangaroo courts. Baringo North OCPD Robert Odongo has confirmed that officers are actively hunting the suspect, who remains at large. The episode has renewed public discussion about the need for stronger protection of girls and more effective responses to cases of abuse across the country.
