Masinde Muliro University Suspends 4 Students Over Violent Lecture Hall Fight

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has suspended four students after a violent altercation inside a lecture hall.
The incident happened on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, and was captured in a video that went viral on social media. The clip showed students exchanging blows and assaulting their colleagues in front of other students and a lecturer who did not intervene.
University Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo strongly condemned the violence. He said the students involved were quickly identified, arrested by security, and subjected to disciplinary action according to the university’s Students’ Regulations Handbook. The four have now been suspended as punishment for the unacceptable behaviour.
The university has warned that it will not tolerate any form of violence on campus. Many Kenyans who saw the video expressed shock that such a fight could happen during a lecture. This action by MMUST is seen as a firm step to maintain discipline and ensure a safe learning environment for all students. The matter has sparked discussions online about student conduct and the role of lecturers in handling conflicts.
